In the realm of industrial infrastructure development, efficient and integrated engineering camp solutions are pivotal to project success. Beijing Chengdong, a seasoned private enterprise specializing in integrated housing, showcased its expertise through the Shandong Yankuang Group’s 300,000-ton/year caprolactam project in Tengzhou, Shandong—and in doing so, set a benchmark for temporary industrial facilities with its innovation and resilience.
The collaboration took root during the 2019 bidding process. Traditional fragmented temporary housing procurement often resulted in inefficiencies in design alignment and construction timelines, as coordination across multiple suppliers proved cumbersome. Chengdong’s proposed holistic “overall delivery model” stood out prominently: it encompassed end-to-end services, from camp planning and product design to material production, procurement of supporting supplies, transportation, and on-site construction. This one-stop solution resonated deeply with Shandong Yankuang Group, which ultimately abandoned piecemeal procurement to entrust the entire camp construction to Chengdong—drawn to the promise of seamless integration and operational efficiency.
Chengdong’s approach was guided by four core principles: quality, humanization, intelligence, and greenization. To meet the client’s demand for large-span centralized office spaces, a targeted product strategy was adopted: the smart chemical site exhibition hall—requiring greater height and span—utilized an H-steel structure, while all other buildings were constructed with Chengdong’s patented ZA product. Crafted from cold-formed, mass-produced materials, the patented ZA product overcomes the limitations of traditional H-steel—including excessive weight and high transportation costs—rendering it perfect for functional spaces such as offices, meeting rooms, and dining halls. The camp itself was designed as a rectangular complex integrating these diverse functional areas, covering a total land area of 8,625 square meters and a building area of 3,741 square meters. Its human-centric layout optimized traffic flow and operational convenience, ensuring the on-site team’s productivity and comfort.
Originally scheduled to commence after the 2020 Spring Festival, the project faced unexpected and severe disruptions due to the outbreak of COVID-19—including travel restrictions, supply chain bottlenecks, and stringent safety protocols. Undeterred, Chengdong’s project team forged ahead with on-site construction on March 8, 2020, embodying an unwavering commitment to the client. Leveraging its core strength in prefabricated construction, over 90% of the project’s components (including ZA product modules) were manufactured in Chengdong’s 70,000-square-meter standardized factory. This off-site production not only ensured strict quality control but also significantly shortened on-site assembly time: prefabricated parts were joined via simple bolt connections, minimizing on-site labor and reducing the risk of virus transmission—all while adhering to rigorous health and safety guidelines.
Two key strengths defined the project’s success. First, prefabrication: factory-manufactured components shortened construction cycles and guaranteed quality consistency, directly addressing the industry’s key pain points—prolonged on-site construction periods and inconsistent quality standards. Second, sustainability: Chengdong’s green-focused solutions minimized material waste through precise factory production processes. The ZA product’s detachable and reusable structure aligns with circular economy principles, while the camp’s design avoided large-scale land hardening—enabling easy post-project land reclamation and reducing long-term environmental impact.
This project adds to Chengdong’s impressive portfolio of over 2,000 global successful cases. Supported by an 80-strong R&D team, an annual R&D investment of 20 million yuan, and over 75 patents, Chengdong delivered a robust operational base that underpinned the smooth progress of Yankuang’s high-priority caprolactam project. As Chengdong continues to expand its footprint across target markets—including the Middle East, South America, Indonesia, and the United States—this case serves as a powerful testament to how its integrated solutions address core industry challenges: shortened construction cycles, cost control, and uncompromising quality. It reinforces Chengdong’s reputation as a trusted global leader in engineering camp solutions, dedicated to delivering value for clients worldwide.
